Aquarium water, garden and fish ponds, aquaculture facilities , etc., are polluted by many substances, such as fish excrement, leftover food, dead fish, decaying plant matter, etc. These inputs create an overabundance of nutrients (ammonium, nitrite, phosphate).
The microporous natural mineral zeolite acts as a filter medium, capturing toxic ammonium through sorption and ion exchange. It also contributes to reducing overall ammonium levels and inhibiting putrefaction processes. The nitrifying and effective microorganisms residing on the filter medium receive valuable support from the zeolite as a habitat. In this way, they rapidly convert the ammonium into relatively harmless nitrates. These nitrates are absorbed by plants, converted into simple nitrogen compounds, and released into the air.
We recommend that Zeolite natural mineral especially in such cases, in addition to our aquarium ProMilieu® AQUA FRESH & MARIN or in the garden or fish pond ProMilieu® POND to be used, for example, if the concentration of pollutants in the aquarium should be exceptionally high for a variety of reasons.
Small wastewater treatment plants/constructed wetlands
Areas of application: Small wastewater treatment plants, constructed wetlands, sewage pipes, sewage systems, screenings, sludge pits, sludge presses, manure pits, etc.
Our micronized zeolite can be added daily to the water in the inlet of the activated sludge basin of the wastewater treatment plant.
Zeolite natural mineral promotes the biological process, acts as an activator, and accelerates biological activity while simultaneously absorbing exhaust gases. It reduces odor nuisance caused by ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, and mercaptans and their toxic effect on process bacteria, prevents the formation of foam layers, and results in significant savings in the use of putrefactive agents and flocculants.
Furthermore, the use of zeolite natural mineral in wastewater treatment plants results in a significant reduction of the sludge index and a strong increase and stabilization of the dry matter content.
Zeolite as an activator in wastewater treatment plants ensures excellent process stability and operational safety, even under highly fluctuating loads and toxic shocks.
Constructed wetland systems (CW)): The mechanisms of action of water purification in PKA are characterized by physical, chemical and biological processes that result from the interaction of water, substrate, microorganisms and plants.
For both horizontal and vertical filters, the purification performance must meet the required levels of BOD5, COD, NH4+/NH3, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus. With proper system sizing, a significant improvement in purification performance can be achieved solely through the selected bottom filter.
Zeolite is used in the PKA (plant filtration system) as part of the plant substrate and/or in the pre-chamber. In the plant substrate, it simultaneously acts as a biofilter and soil substrate for the numerous marsh plants. The purification effect of the zeolite is enhanced when combined with phosphate binders.
In a new system, the zeolite can be introduced into the constructed wetland together with the substrate sand/gravel, or it can completely replace the sand/gravel.
Basis for calculation: Minimum 10 kg zeolite /m2, grain size 1-3 mm (grain size available on request!).
